The picture was taken at Binh Trieu ShipYard , Thu Duc District. As Ho Chi Minh city has developed, the standard of living rises and more modern buildings are built. However, contrast to the modern view, there are still very poor families living next to them.

Man earns daily bread for his poor family by cutting down the coconuts’ covers to make the coconuts look nicer, cleaner and easier to transport to the city center. He can earn as much as VND60,000 (US$3.38) per day from cleaning 200-300 coconuts.

A poor family with five people lives in this shelter located in Thu Duc district near a small rivulet. The only source of income comes from selling rubbish. The little girl currently studies 1st grade and her school fee is sponsored by the local government.

Those houses locate in District 8.Everyday, people lives here has no clean water to use, no official electricity. They live in the city center area but their lives standards are even below the ones in rural areas.
