Home is Where the Heart is

Since then, she has frequently come back to extend her kindness to the community where she was born.  The family has long supported charitable causes here, such as contributions to the local hospital, an orphanage and a nursing home, as well as renovating two temples.  Her support has benefited Rach Gia's poorest people, which makes up 2.46% of the city's population. (2009 figure) In May 2010, Anh and her son Dr. Duc Do along with some family friends visited Habitat for Humanity Vietnam’s “Rainbow Village”, where we are building homes with poor families formerly living and working on a garbage dump site. Impressed by the efforts the project has thus far, she decided to make a generous donation and has begun raising more funds since her return home.  Habitat Vietnam is the first large international organization, in Rach Gia, the family has supported. Anh said, “Habitat for Humanity is a large organization and yet they have chosen Rach Gia out of all the places they could be working. We are so fortunate to have Habitat helping people here.” The Rainbow Village project aims to improve the lives of 53 families through the provision of housing, education and vocational training. So far, 24 families have moved into safe homes and acquired new livelihood skills. Please click here to read on Rainbow Village homeowners’ stories.
